Edward Albee (1928- )
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and creator of American absurdist drama, best known for the Tony award-winning Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Early on, Albee displayed a knack for showing persons in true dysfunctional relationships, unable or unwilling to communicate their true feelings to each other and often masking this inability with abuse. Plays for which he won his Pulitzers are Delicate Balance (1966), Seascape (1975), and Three Tall Women (1991). Albee was further honored by the Kennedy Center in 1996. His other plays include The Lady from Dubuque (1979) Lolita (1979), based on the controversial Nobokov novel, and Sandbox (1959), his first absurdist drama and the one which first brought him critical attention.
