Amoebic Dysentery
From Outcyclopedia, the free and queer encyclopedia.
Amoebic dysentery is a severe diarrheal illness often associated with blood in the feces. It is caused by the amoeba Entamoeba histolytica.
Amoebic dysentery is chiefly transmitted by contaminated water, and is well known as a "travellers dysentery", although it is occasionally seen in Western countries. Liver infection, and subsequent amoebic abcesses can occur. It can be treated with metronidazole or related azole drugs. The condition is an especially serious risk for those who practice annilingus or
coprophilia, and outbreaks among gay males were fairly common in the days before AIDS prompted the adoption of safer sex practices.
