Honey Hellfire (born 1974)
A resident of the Chicago area, Honey is rarely without her trademark six-inch heels, form fitting black dresses, and pink feather boa. The former spokesperson, or "Emissary" for the Church of Satan's now defunct Mephisto Grotto, Honey is the host of The Honey Hellfire Show on Radio Free Satan, playing a mix of techno, industrial, electro-based-metal with a dash of darkwave, accompanied with her own seductive humor and outspoken opinions. Occassionally, a show may be centered around a special topic, with the musical selections chosen fitting that topic. Honey is also a co-founder of Mephisto Media, the company which owns Radio Free Satan. Both Mephisto Media and RFS evolved from the original Mephisto Grotto. Mephisto Media recently started its own record label in partnership with Reptilian Records, producing recordings geared towards the tastes of the Satanicly minded. Oh, and did we mention she is also very openly bisexual? In over three years on Radio Free Satan, Honey has done shows on sex, feminism, Marilyn Monroe, the religious right, freedom of expression, and individual liberty. More recently, she has turned her attention particularly towards these last three subjects, organizing People's Voice to fight attempts by the Religious Right to suppress liberty, as well as educate people to the very anti-Christian attitudes of the United States' Founding Fathers, especially Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and Benjamin Franklin, who was a member of the notorious Hellfire Club. While People's Voice has now folded due to time constraints from Honey's busy schedule, she remains politically active and aware, and tries to make others aware whenever possible. To protest the burning of Harry Potter books and other literature by church groups, Honey organized her own National Bible-Burning Day, with participants burning Bibles in their own backyards while Honey broadcast a show centered around the event. Honey and those who participated emphasize that the burnings were not an attempt at censorship but a symbolic protest against religious oppression, analogous to burning flags or effigies. The goal was not to have the Bible removed from any schools, libraries, or bookstores, but to demonstrate that if the Religious Right could claim a Constitutional right to burn books they found offensive, then so could those who found their actions offensive. Honey Hellfire is now enjoying her fourth year as a DJ on Radio Free Satan, which can be heard each day through the RFS website at 6:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 10:00 PM, US Central Standard Time, with live recordings as announced. "Dark Dungeons," a new show hosted by Honey and RFS programing director Dr. Jest, discusses role-playing games, and is broadcast at 5:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 9:00 PM CST. She also has many other projects running, including the compilation of her first solo CD incollaboration with Professor Sinister of the group Cannibal Whore Feast. Now in its final stages, the CD, Brave New World, is due for release later this year. In many ways, Honey is proof that a woman can be cute, flirtatious, seductive, and feminine, yet still be smart, literate, assertive, and above all, a force with which to be reckoned.
