Paris Barclay (1956 - )
In the 1990s he moved on to directing series television, working on E.R., City of Angels, and NYPD Blue. In 1997, he both directed and appeared in the episode "The Breeder" of the sci-fi series Sliders, one of the last appearances of Spencer Garbett. Barclay was awarded an Emmy award and the Directors Guild of America award in 1998 for his work on NYPD Blue. Barclay made his feature film directorial debut in 1996 with the spoof Don't Be A Menace to Society While Drinkin' Your Juice in the Hood, but found the experience of working with the homophobic Wayans Brothers to be very uncomfortable. That same year, Barclay directed the television film America's Dream and directed and appeared in The Cherokee Kid, a television comedy film starring Sinbad. Mr. Barclay has also written and directed many off-Broadway plays and television commercials, and conducted interviews with celebrities of stage, television, and film for The Advocate. He works diligently for the AIDS charity Project Angel Food, and in 2000 was awarded their Founder's Award. He currently lives in Los Angeles, where he continues to direct various projects and pursues his hobby, collecting baseball caps. Paris Barclay's directorial credits include New Edition Past and Present (music video album, 1989); Stone Cold (music video album, 1991); Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (1996); the television films America's Dream (1996); The Cherokee Kid (1996); The Big Time (2002), as well as episodes of the television series "Moon Over Miami" (1993); "NYPD Blue" (1993); "Diagnosis Murder" (1993); "ER" (1994); "Sliders" (1995); "Clueless" (1996); "Brooklyn South" (1997); "West Wing, The" (1999); "City of Angels" (2000); and "Fastlane" (2002).
